Riverwind Casino Blog

Welcome Caroline

Caroline in Benz

There’s a new face here at Riverwind Casino. Caroline is going to be your new blogger, social media manager and concert photographer. No stranger to Riverwind, Caroline has actually accompanied me on many visits and has already gotten her feet wet with a few concerts – Jake’s Birthday Bash and Bret Michaels, to name a couple! So what is a social media manager exactly? Glad you asked. Caroline will be letting you know about all of the happenings on the Facebook Page, tweeting away a storm on Twitter, answering your questions on Trip Advisor and starring in Riverwind&r...

$2 Million MegaKeno

Remember Keno? It’s that bingo/lottery hybrid that the Griswolds won their fortune on in National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation. They played their last $2 on a game of Keno and drove away much richer than they arrived. You’re picturing it now, aren’t you? Now, picture it a little differently, and you don’t even have to go all the way to Vegas. It’s YOU who walks into Riverwind Casino, puts $2 toward your favorite 10 numbers and walks away with over $2 million. Let me tell you about our MegaKeno Progressive. First thing to note, you only have the chance to win it at R...

MMA for Beginners

I know a lot about a lot of random things: I know that the Statue of Liberty was modeled after the sculptor’s mother, that the amount of bubbles in a glass of Champagne is directly related to how clean the glass is, and that in 1984 Red Dawn was the first movie to be rated PG-13.  But I know exactly nothing about MMA. Or I didn’t until about a month ago.   When I found out I would be covering the Battlegrounds MMA event on January 18, I immediately ran a Google search and started reading. So whether you’re a seasoned MMA veteran, an occasional fan or a com...

Marek & Rachel Wrap Up 2013

Marek Started Things Off 2013 began with a bang. In January, we saw the talents of Travis LeDoyt, Stoney LaRue, Sara Evans, and several MMA fighters in the King of the Cage. Throughout the year, the concerts kept on rolling through the Showplace. In September alone, we had six. SIX. That’s a lot of late night dance parties for this gal. And, of course, that was only what Riverwind Casino had to offer in the Showplace Theatre. 2013 also brought several jackpots (and hilarious pictures that accompanied some of them), a change in the menu line-up at Wil...

Meet Miss Oklahoma USA 2013: Makenzie Muse

Meet Miss Oklahoma USA 2013: Makenzie Muse This weekend, Riverwind is the proud host of the annual Miss Oklahoma USA pageant. Swimsuits, evening gowns, high heels and tiaras are the order of the day, and I’m bringing you all the information straight from the source: Reigning Miss Oklahoma USA, Makenzie Muse. Pageants aren’t familiar territory for me; I’m more at home at a Dallas Cowboys game or debating the merits of one restaurants queso over another, but I called up Makenzie ready to learn what it takes to be a pageant champion.  I wanted to know about the work that...

Rachel Meets Country Music

Full disclosure: I’m not a country music buff. As a native Texan and current Oklahoman, I realize that this is completely abnormal, but in the interest of transparency I thought y’all should know. That being said, however, you should also know that I’m a huge music fan and that growing up in Texas, I was raised on the likes of George Strait, Garth Brooks and Brooks and Dunn with hints of Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton thrown in at random for good measure. In fact, the first concert I ever attended was Garth Brooks at Texas Stadium in 1993. The one where ...

Rachel Meets The Turnpike Troubadours

The first time I spoke with Evan Felker, the lead singer and guitarist of the Turnpike Troubadours, I found myself asking him to call me back. To say that it was not my most auspicious moment would be an understatement. There had been some miscommunication about what time our interview would take place, and I had just sat down for a meeting. Having had no prior experience with musicians I braced myself for a cliché outburst á la This is Spinal Tap, but instead found myself talking with Evan as though we had known each other for 10 years I was simply running late to a tailgate p...

Riverwind Welcomes Rachel

Meet Rachel. She’s your new Riverwind Casino blogger, concert photographer, Facebook poster, Tweeter and Instagrammer. (I’m aware that those last two were completely made up words.)  In short, she’s going to be the person you go to when you need advice on which restaurant to hit up while you’re here. She’ll be the one telling you all about the upcoming concerts and taking photos of the artists who come through the Showplace Theatre. She’s a shoulder for you to lean on and will cheer you on when you win big. I’ve enjoyed being all of those ...

Oklahoma Strong

Oklahoma Strong

It’s hard to believe it’s been over a month since tornadoes sliced through the heart of Oklahoma, leaving many without basic necessities.  Since those May storms, Riverwind employees have stepped up to help those who truly needed it. ·         Riverwind was able to cook and deliver around 5,000 hot meals to disaster workers and misplaced families along with a flatbed trailer full of bottled water and other drink items. ·         As a facility along with patrons we were able to fill a semi-trailer 3/4 of the way full with much needed supplies (...
